Know everything about H11 hot work Tool Steel

H11 is one of the most commonly known chromium hot-work steels. Chromium hot-work tool steels are actually designed as per the classification guideline and system of the AISI. This series of steels range from H1 to H19.

The H11 hot-work tool steel can be air-hardened, even in 150mm thickness sections. The steel is having a well-balanced alloy content, which results in very little distortion of the steel during hardening.

In countries like India, where searching and choosing the right and top quality H11 chromium hot-work tool steel is quite a task, Virat Steels reigns as the largest stockist of this hot-works tool steel, chromium H11.

The tools produced out of Virat Steels H11, the leading supplier of H11 chromium hot-work tool steel, can be cooled using water without any kind of damage, as these steels have very low carbon and alloy content.

Machinability

The machinability rate of H11 tool steels is around 75% of that of the group W tool steels.

Forming & Welding

Forming H11 is not a complex task when it comes to Forming. H11 tool steels are formed using conventional methods, such as machining and forging.

And if we talk about the welding possibilities of this tool, then here also the conventional welding methods can be readily used.

Heat Treatment

H11 tools steels are first preheated to 816^C, which is around 1550^F. Then, the steel is directly heated up by increasing the temperature to around 1010^C, which is almost 1850^F, and then is held up for 15 to 40 minutes. The heated H11 tool steel is then air quenched in the very last step.

Tempering

The tempering of the H11 tool steel is done at around 538 to 649^C, which is almost 1000 to 1200^F. This helps the tool steel in obtaining Rockwell C hardness of about 54 to 38. Also, double tempering can also be performed in these steels in every one hour.

Applications

H11 tool steel is pretty suitable for designing highly stressed and high pressured structural parts, such as heavy aircraft landing gears.
